Germany is strengthening its pioneering role in the renewable energies sector, writes Bertrand Benoit in Berlin . Renewable energies will account for 14 per cent of all electricity produced in Germany this year, according to new estimates.
The forecast, published yesterday by the federation of energy and water companies, showed that the country already exceeded European Union-wide objectives for 10 per cent of all electricity to be generated from renewable resources by 2010. Subsidies last year of €3.2bn (£2.3bn) helped establish the country's lead.
